Storm Stoppers performance on Flush-mounted windows during hurricanes:
Flush-mounted windows are windows that are even or “flush” with the outside siding. Thus, a Storm Stoppers panel, mounted to a flush mounted window would stick out and both the panel and the 3M Dual Lock Reclosable Fasteners would be exposed to the full force of hurricane winds.
Some of the homes that Storm Stoppers has been used on during major hurricanes have had flush-mounted windows. For example, Mrs. Florene Deckard’s home in Edmond, Oklahoma has flush mounted windows and she protected her home with Storm Stoppers during an EF-02 Tornado, with winds up to 130 mph, in 2015. You can see what flush mounted windows look like in the testimonial from Gary G. in The Villages, below.
The 143 mph Wall of Wind Lab Test of Storm Stoppers, as shown on the home page, shows the testing structure had flush-mounted windows as well.
We live in Satellite Beach Florida, about 5 blocks from the Atlantic Ocean. This October, with Hurricane Matthew approaching our coast as a Category 4 hurricane, my husband and I installed our 12 Storm Stoppers panels quickly and easily. After evacuating to Orlando, we saw news reports that Satellite Beach withstood maximum wind gusts of 107 mph Thursday night and into Friday morning during the hurricane.
We arrived home to find no damage to our home or windows thanks to our Storm Stoppers! Two additional pluses that I value highly with Storm Stoppers: daylight still comes in when they are all up, and if I stayed and needed quick egress (in case of a fire for example) they are quick and easy to remove from the inside.
Thank you for developing Storm Stoppers. And for being such a friendly and teaching proponent of them.
We just want to take a moment and let you know how wonderful your product withstood Hurricane Matthew’s winds on the Treasure Coast. We are in Grant, Fl and the winds got up to 120 miles an hour for many many hours. We have had these panel for over 10 years and have used them before for storms and we can say that this is the best money we could have spent for protection for our home and us. They fit so tightly that winds just seem to not be able to get through. They also are a protection from rain entering our home. All and all, we are very happy with your product.
I am very impressed and pleased with your product. The panels are not heavy. The installation instructions are precise and detailed. I especially liked the fact that you included ALL required tools. You thought of everything!! An added bonus, in The Villages, is that NO “Architectural Review” is needed.
Just wanted to share some of the results of installation. We’re very pleased!
For a dry run it only took me less than 25 minutes to put up all the panels – even the large Florida Room panels weren’t a problem for one person.
We scaled back on the front door as we couldn’t reconcile in our heads having the white CAPS outlining the center of the door, so we settled on an inside frame application to eliminate that visual.
